Renovation of Laßnitz Bridge GKB – route between Lieboch and Wies/Eibiswald
The Graz-Wies line operated by the Graz-Köflacher Bahn and Busbetrieb GmbH is a very important connection between the central district centre of Deutschlandsberg and the state capital Graz. At kilometre mark 31.651, the GKB train line crosses the Laßnitz. Due to detected damage that would otherwise have required an extensive restoration, the existing bridge that was built in 1932, was replaced in March 2012 with a new, single lane steel bridge. The new bridge has a 25m span and has lower carriageway slabs integrated in its design. The old bridge’s life was not completely over either but instead found a new home in North Germany forming a section of a bike way as part of an art project. Thomas Lorenz ZT GmbH was responsible for the structural design and the building regulations of the new bridge.
