GdG Vienna Office Renovation

The office building of the Municipal Employees’ Union (Gewerkschaft der Gemeindebediensteten GdG) in Vienna’s 9th district underwent comprehensive renovation. The conversion and extension included, among other things, a two-story rooftop addition. A total gross floor area of more than 5,800 m² was redesigned, with the building interior extensively gutted. The former roof structure was completely removed and a new steel construction installed. A spacious hall is situated in the courtyard, which was built over in some areas across multiple floors. In addition to a generous roof terrace with views over Vienna’s skyline, a green-planted light well was also incorporated. The particular challenge was to adapt the structural engineering to the construction sequences, thereby keeping the construction time as short as possible.
