The new landmark of Vienna
In 2014, the Donau City Tower was built directly on the banks of the river Donau. This new tower houses not only offices but also a Meliá Hotel. On top of the building there is a sky terrace including a bar and a restaurant.
Rising up
The DC Tower 1 is one of the two towers designed by Dominique Perrault, and, towering at 220 metres, it will be the highest building in Austria. The contract for the façade of DC-T1 was won by Strabag AG. Thomas Lorenz ZT GmbH were entrusted by Strabag with the responsibility to provide the load bearing calculations for the façade.
The façade looks simple, but, with its approximately 700 diverse elements its simplicity was deceiving and construction turned out to be tricky.
