S36 Murtal Expressway

More quality of life

The S36 Murtal Expressway is an important arterial road in Austria and currently runs from the intersection at St Michael (A9/S6) to Judenburg. In order to reduce the load of traffic through the small local towns and to better connect the region of Murtal, it was decided to extend the S36 up to Scheifling. From 2013 until the end of 2020, Section 2 (TA2) “St. Georgen o. J. to Scheiflinger Ofen” is built.

Section 2, the below-ground traffic route St. Georgen o. J., was realised between 2013 and 2015. At the moment Section 5, the below-ground traffic route Unzmarkt, is being built and will be open to traffic by the end of 2020!

Section 2 has a total length of 7.2 km and follows predominantly the route of the existing B317 road.
Section 1 (TA1) “Expansion Judenburg to St. Georgen o. J.” will complete the road works project und is currently in the planning phase.

Reliability on all paths

Thomas Lorenz ZT GmbH is continuously onsite with four co-workers and supervises the construction activities in Section 5. Besides the building of below-ground traffic routes, bridges, anchor walls, water pollution control systems, connection points, and the adaptation of the existing four-lane-highway, the course of a section of the river Mur was also altered.
