The University Hospital of Schleswig-Holstein (UKSH) with its locations in Kiel and Lübeck is one of the largest centres for medical care in Europe. At the end of September 2014, the BAM – VAMED consortium was awarded the contract for the structural renovation of both sites. The costs for planning, new construction and refurbishment of the properties at the Kiel and Lübeck locations amount to around 520 million euros. The overall project has a contract term of 30 years and includes not only construction but also subsequent operation and ongoing maintenance. For the structural engineering, the company looked across the border to Austria.
